 Kaufman County Property Crimes

Kaufman Texas, - You suddenly realize your purse is missing. You come home from work and the television is gone. As you walk through the shopping center parking lot, searching for your vehicle, you realize someone actually has stolen it. These are called property crimes: larcenies, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts. By one very conservative estimate, annual losses are thought to exceed over $15 billion.

There will always be thieves, of course. The number of them is influenced to no small degree by the state of the economy. When times are tough, there is going to be some segment of the population that will just take what they cannot afford.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Property Crimes Division is taking a proactive stance against property crimes. The divisions statistical information from July 2009 thru December 2009 is as follows:

“Crime going down is good; crime staying down is better, “said Sheriff David Byrnes. “We are committed to the safety of all Kaufman County residents, and we have accomplished that, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us.”

In 2010, in addition to initiatives that have been shown to work in the past, the crime-fighting effort will again depend on a willingness of residents to step forward and cooperate with the Sheriff’s Office to solve crimes throughout Kaufman County.

The result of such citizen participation was evident in 2009, thru Crime Watch programs, Citizens on Patrol groups, and citizen tips that together all helped in deterring crime in Kaufman County.

“Times get hard, and people resort to these types of things (robberies, thefts) more than they normally would, but we will keep at it and get the message out there that these activities will not be tolerated,” Sheriff David Byrnes said.
